Practising lawyer

Prince George Urban Aboriginal Services Society

Prince George Urban Aboriginal Services Society is hiring a Lawyer for its Law Clinic, which provides free legal representation services.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Practising Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia. Minimum 3-year experience practice. Passion for social justice and tenants’ rights, and an interest in developing a reputation as a provincial expert in housing law. Strong knowledge of the Residential Tenancy Act and principles of administrative law. Exceptional written and oral communication skills. Existing profile in the social justice legal community is an asset.


COMPENSATION
$82,000 to $90,000 per year.
2 weeks annual vacation
Extended health and dental benefits after 3 months.
Payment of professional development opportunities applicable to the position.

LEGAL ADVOCATE(temporary)

First United is a social service agency working in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver supporting vulnerable community members struggling with issues such as poverty, addiction and mental health. If you are seeking work in the social services area and interested in working and supporting the community on the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, this  is the purpose filled work for you.   

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provide advocacy assistance and representation to the Downtown Eastside community and others on a variety of issues generally encountered by low-income individuals and families. 

FULL TIME OR PART TIME.

COMPENSATION: This is a bargaining unit position under UFCW 1518. Presently the wage is $35.92 under the collective agreement. This position provides generous time off provisions and excellent health and welfare benefits.

Public Legal Educator

Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES)

Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) is a Canadian non-profit organization with over 30 years of experience in advancing the rule of law by empowering people to access and deliver justice through increasing legal capability, strengthening justice systems and developing digital solutions.

The Public Legal Educator will be part of our Justice System Education Program and will provide legal education to students and community groups. They will help increase the legal capability and deepen their understanding of our justice system of participants through educational sessions, watching live trials and interactions with justice professionals.

HIRING DETAILS
$30.84 / hr

Status: Part-time employment (15 hours per week, 3 days a week)

Legal Advocate

Seniors First BC

The Legal Advocate will provide legal information, summary advice and representation older adults who have limited financial resources. Client files are mainly issues about public sector pensions and benefits, residential tenancy issues and consumer debt. The Legal Advocate works with the SFBC to advance legal education and community outreach activities.

Qualifications:

·        Post-secondary education in law or social sciences, or other related field

·        Excellent advocacy and problem solving skills

·        Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written;

·        Understanding of trauma-informed approach and working with marginalized communities

·        Cultural competency and ability to work with older adults from various cultural communities.

·        Prior experience working as a legal advocate in the non-profit sector is an asset.

·        The ability speak languages other than English is an asset

Additional Information

The successful applicant will be expected to work out of our downtown office, with the option to work remotely a few days/week.

Rate of Pay: $59,000-$64,000 per year, depending on skills and experience.
